Digging Out

Look, I have been waiting to write my "snow redux" post. You know, the one to wrap up the lengthy and brutal snowstorm that has barreled through our fair town. I've actually been really excited to write it. Only one problem: IT HASN'T STOPPED SNOWING!

Currently I am in a coffee shop, the only one I found on a two mile walk through a blizzard. Yes, you read that right: blizzard. Again. Somewhere between 10-20 inches was predicted to fall yesterday and today and the meteorologists may have understated that. This morning I walked on a sidewalk that I watched a man shovel yesterday. I was shin-deep in snow.

So, of all the serious questions one could ask during such, uh, flaky times, what do people do. Well, a Washington Post columnists says men become more manly. I'll admit, I dug out a car. But I was in no hurry to do it.
"There is a reason "the best snow shovel on the planet!" is called simply: "Manplow." I think I can safely assert that no woman has ever suffered shovel envy.

"Give a man a job, and he'll clear a path to your door."

I actually wrote all of that yesterday, but then had to leave to plow through nearly waste-deep snow at times.

Moving on, again.

Came across this last night:

Yes, it's a little brutal. I just wanted to make two points, however. One, of course he can't be charged with aggravated assault. The sheriff is exactly right: it was a sporting event. There was a fight. Get over it. If you're going to charge athletes with aggravated assault, and you think someone getting punched in the face is as bad as it gets, well, I have some land to sell you.

Second, the father specifically says that the officials didn't intervene. Yet, if you look at the video, the ref is there immediately. But, as an official, once multiple players become involved, refs are taught to back away. What is going to do, but get pummeled himself? Let it play itself out because players will clear it up. The truly ugly scene where they let it go is so incredibly rare.
  • In my morning roundup today, I found a quote from Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, would had stern words for the Senate about its inability to pass legislation without 60 votes. "A constitutional majority is 51," she said. That is the tune starting to catch on here in Washington, where the filibuster is being used as a political tool, not the reason it was put in place.
  • To its credit (or detriment maybe), the Senate is actually open today.
  • Former Texas Congressman Charlie Wilson died.
I'll have more later
