Forgot I wanted to post this video and add a couple other notes. This is a web video created by LCV:

Pass this around to all your friends and anyone else you know.

Tomorrow I am going to a conference at George Washington early in the morning. We'll see how that goes. The subject is the national security implications of climate change. John Kerry will be there. So we'll see. Seems like the kind of thing Bill Clinton would randomly show up at. Maybe Steven Chu. Should be interesting.

And some newsy stuff I wanted to share.

Didn't bother to look for a link to this story somewhere else (it was in the Express - short version of the Washington Post where no story is longer than that page - awesome), but in New York City a plan was unveiled to teach middle and high school students about September 11. It will be taught through videos and interactive exercises, including a part that uses Google Earth to track global terrorism. Beyond how much education has advanced just since I left it, in is an interesting thought to realize that, eight years ago Friday, this happened. It truly is a part of history now. Yet I remember that morning like it was an hour ago. The day sitting in the gym at Seattle Prep. I remember that Friday wondering what the hell we were doing kicking off a football game. I remember that after the MLB season started again the Mariners lost three in a row for the first time all year. And I remember five years later the first time I visited. These things I will never forget.

DC was ranked the fourth-best metropolitan area to attend college, behind New York, San Francisco and Boston. Fifth? Seattle.

I got two signs of the apocalypse from today. The are great:

"One of their friends had an eye on the chili and they got together last night and decided they were going to get it." - SGT. Camillo Grande of Bennington, Vermont, regarding a team of four who tried to steal the giant pepper from atop a Chili's restaurant on Sunday.

Police said a suspect in a home robbery in Columbus, Ohio, was arrested when he returned to the home about two hours later to ask one of the victims on a date. Seriously. This happened. Only a Buckeye.

Last thing and I REALLY hope you read this far because this was big for me today. Have any of you heard of Koch Industries? I didn't think so. Google them. Look them up. Read their "Source Watch" page. This is the second largest privately-held company in the US. One of its owner has really said it will be publicly traded, "literally over my dead body." It is one of the older oil refining companies in the US, with pipelines all across the country. But it gets worse. This is a conglomerate. It owns a bunch of other companies, power plants, coal mines, the works. Guarantee it is the largest company you have never heard of. Larger than any oil company. Yes, that includes Exxon. It outspent Exxon during the 2008 election. Seriously a powerhouse energy company. Check them out. There were people in my office that had never heard of the company. But neither had I so it wasn't totally unbelievable. But this thing existing just blew me away. PS: I always felt like a name like "Koch Industries" was a movie name. They really call companies that?

Alright y'all. Night.
