First week - Rough

By Benton on 5:51 PM
Hey everyone, thanks for checking out the blog. Someone mentioned to me yesterday that even the idea of blogging seems self-centered, like assuming all these people want to know about your life. Well, if no one reads it I guess it can be used as a journal or something.
Anyway, I got here on Tuesday. Flew through Salt Lake City and landed in the middle of the night in the familiar east coast humidity. Still have yet to adjust to that.
Of the five days I have been here I've spent about 4.9 of them looking for an apartment that I am still yet to find. It has been a fairly trying process. Frustrating at the very best. For those of you from Seattle, if you think living there is expensive, you have no idea. My apartment in Seattle would easily run you $2000 out here. Also, as one homeowner I talked to today pointed out, this city is a business, period. People don't just meet you, decide they like you and establish trust. Your make account does that. So as it stands I am still looking at apartments this weekend and applied for one today. Cross your fingers and pray for me. And if any of you know my cousin Chevalier Strong, thank him on behalf of me for letting me crash on his couch indefinitely. Also to Mary Shickich for picking me up at the airport and dealing with me in Baltimore the first couple of days. Between moving my luggage around and searching for apartment I would estimate that I've walked about 75 miles this week. Today alone I did about 2 hours of walking. Even more yesterday.
The biggest deal is that I start the real world tomorrow. Work at 8 am. I'm not scared, just in awe a little about the fact that this day is finally here. I'm also still not totally in-tune with the fact that I'm not getting on plane tomorrow to go back to my office in the Graves Bldg at UW.
Definitely missing all you guys in the 206 and especially the weather. It rains out here at 85 degrees and the breeze is warm. I'll come back soon.

Stay classy. Go Huskies!

PS: Check out what I'll be doing my first week on the job. And look out for some good links.
